Public Relations and Communications (PRC)

Public Relations and Communications (PRC) is the creative, spirit of IFLS, providing a  coordinated, continuous effort to communicate a positive image of each of our 56 member libraries.

Well-rounded public relations and communications promote the availability of each library’s resources, services, and programs and targets local demographics to take full advantage of the service area’s promotional opportunities.

PRC provides member libraries with services in five key areas:

1.     Media relations

Build and maintain relationships with local media, write and distribute news releases, garner attention, schedule interviews, get libraries in the news, and keep local media informed about what is going on at a local level.

2.     Design and marketing
Design unique yet coordinated promotional and marketing materials to help librarians promote programs and services in their service area’s. Coordinate group orders to ensure maximum discount advantages.

3.     Advocacy
Implementation of @ your library®, The Campaign for America's Libraries, a multi-year public awareness and advocacy campaign that speaks loudly and clearly about the importance of libraries and librarians in the 21st century.

4.     Web site design
Design aesthetically-pleasing, current, and accurate web sites to help librarians promote programs and services in their service area’s.

5.     Event coordination assistance
Assist in initial planning and brainstorming, create a marketing plan, design and order promotional materials, initiate media attention, and help measure success.

Excellent library services and a courteous well-trained staff that meet the needs of library patrons are the heart and soul of any public relations/marketing effort. All of these services depend on that.
