Recommended IFLS Policies for ILL--Library as Borrower
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is defined as items borrowed from another library and circulated locally. The following policies may not apply to items borrowed through your shared system.
Too New for ILL?
IFLS will not refer requests for materials published/released in the last four months outside of the Indianhead system.
Requests for renewals of ILL materials are discouraged, but completely at the discretion of the lender. Many libraries will renew if you request via WISCAT or call directly. IFLS can renew materials from MORE libraries.
Charge the same fines that you would charge for in-house materials. Suggested standard is $1.00 per day for DVDs; $.10 per day for other materials; $5.00 maximum per item.
The Borrowing Library is always responsible for the cost of borrowed ILL materials. Actual cost for lost materials is billed by the lending library. Contact the lending library.
If keeping paper files, consider filing pending interlibrary loan requests by title. If materials are received with no paperwork, the requests will be easier to find.
