One last thing to report about the teen section of the SLP workshop!  Holy mackerel, it was a full 2 hours!

Penny mentioned a resource, put together on Google, called Maker Camp–projects designed for 13-18 year-olds to do during the summer, 30 projects in 30 days, in fact!  Last year’s projects are available here.  They include everything from making a woven map basket to a potato cannon to kryptonite candy to junk art robots, to learning to animate GIFs.  What a treasure-trove for librarians working with teens and tweens!

This year’s camp is scheduled to run from July 8-August 16–for more information, check out the website.

Teens in Eau Claire rinse off etching projects during a Makerspace program

As Marge Loch-Wouters recently pointed out, youth services librarians have been all over the Makerspace idea for decades.  Still, it makes sense to jump on this exciting ride, take advantage of the momentum, and do some crazy, fun stuff at your library.  In Eau Claire, Jessi Peterson has been doing a Makerspace series for teens that has included yarn bombing the YA lounge (Extra Yarn, anyone?), glass etching, and steampunk metal working.  Next up?  Ceramics.  How cool is that??
