October Professional Development Opportunities
Please check the NEWI list of free webinars to find online continuing education opportunities you may attend from where you are. Most sessions are 60 minutes long, and are provided – at no charge to you – by associations, agencies, companies, and library systems. There’s a lot to choose from
- October 12 1:00-3:00 pm: Webmaster Office Hours
- October 13 at 1:00 pm: Creating a Healthy Culture with Conduct, Communication, and Conflict Resolution webinar with Emily Rogers and Karla Girladez, Brown County Library. More information and registration available here.
- October 20, 10-11 am: Recipes for Grant Success. It seems like a great idea to apply for grants in order to extend our budgets and pay for projects we want to do. But sometimes finding the right match with a funder and writing the grant proposal can be mystifying, time-consuming, and ultimately unsuccessful. Especially if you work in a small library, with limited staff resources, it can be hard to find the time to do grant work successfully. Cricket LaFond, director of the Clear Lake Public Library, has over 30 years of grant writing experience, and she will share her time-saving and practical tips for writing grants.
This session will provide 1 contact hour for continuing education, and will be recorded and captioned for later use. REGISTER HERE

IFLS received several complementary copies of the video We All Fitf rom Good Friend, Inc. It is a K-5 grade autism peer sensitivity and bullying prevention video. As of now, no one in the MORE system owns this video, made in 2014. Please let Leah know if you are interested in adding a copy to your collection or if you have a school partner who would like to use it.
Funding and Grant Opportunities
ARPA Group Grant Proposal Opportunity
IFLS, WVLS, and NWLS are collaborating to apply for ARPA Fundingon behalf of the libraries in our systems. There is a very tight turnaround for this grant opportunity, so we have worked quickly to come up with some options that we think both meet the grant requirements and will be useful to public libraries in our area. Please read the information sheet, and if you are interested in any of the items, please fill out the form by October 15. It will be handy to have the information sheet and the form open at the same time. One form per library, please.

Operations, Tech and the Website
Since the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten App developed by the Bridges Library System is going to be sunset by the end of this year, several libraries are considering developing a 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge using a Beanstack template. Several IFLS libraries have already done this. If you have not and would like help, please let Leah know, and she’ll set you up with a library that has already done it. The state has a contract with Beanstack through March of 2023. This has a very good likelihood of being continued as a statewide service using LSTA funds. Questions?
