Some fun stuff out there recently about kids’ books!
Here’s a recent article at the Atlantic website about an exhibit at the New York Public Library, curated by Leonard Marcus, a children’s book historian. It makes me want to go to New York City! The display is called “The ABC of It: Why Children’s Books Matter,” and it includes first editions of some classic titles, discussion of the evolution of children’s literature, and more (including the original Winnie the Pooh stuffed animals–we’re not talking Disney, here!)
Then, in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the Caldecott Medal, the folks at Teaching Books created a 6-minute video montage of words of winning artists, in-studio interviews with Kevin Henkes, Leo and Dianne Dillon, and David Weisner, and first-edition covers of all the winning titles. It is a lovely tribute for those of us who GEEK CHILDREN’S LITERATURE!
