Keeping Up With Kids

Summer is winding down, and maybe you have an eye to fall! Here are some resources that may help you with fall programs.

The Illinois Service Resource Center has put together American Sign Language Literacy Packets available for viewing and/or downloading on our website. These packets are based on seven popular picture books (such as Eric Carle’s Very Hungry Caterpillar, Marcus Pfister’s Rainbow Fish, and the classic tale I Know an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly). Each packet includes a description and demonstration of the ASL signs necessary to read the book; three literacy activities – with all related handouts and manipulatives – are also included in each packet. They are available as an e-book or a pdf. Pretty cool! Take a peek!
Also, if you are thinking about book groups for the fall, the Multnomah County Library in Oregon has a great resource online with discussion questions, ideas about best practices, etc. More peeking is in order.
