In January, a school bus driver contacted Patti Blount, director at the Durand Community Library and asked if there was a way to get some books on the bus so that kids with long rides would have something fun to do. The library worked with the bus company and now has a milk crate of books on each school bus. The books are items that have been withdrawn from the library collection, and range from board books to picture books to search-and-find books to nonfiction. They have enough materials to rotate (and replace items that go home with a child). Bus drivers have reported less problems with squirrelly behavior, and kids are enjoying the bus ride more. Yay!
